Representative Mary Gonzalez to Speak at the Annual Women in Hort Get Together!
Introduction
Representative Mary Gonzalez will be the featured speaker at the Annual Women in Hort Get Together. Raised in Clint, Texas, she graduated from Clint High School. She is currently serving her sixth term in the Texas House of Representatives. Mary was elected in November 2012 to represent House District 75, which encompasses much of eastern El Paso County.
Legislative Work by Representative Mary Gonzalez
As a state representative, Mary has authored many bills to improve public schools, increase economic development, and support agriculture in District 75 and throughout Texas. She is the Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. She also serves on the House Higher Education Committee and the Legislative Budget Board. Additionally, Mary chairs the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus and is the Treasurer of the Information Technology Caucus. Moreover, she chairs the Board of Latino Legislative Leaders, a national bi-partisan organization of Latino state legislative leaders.
Recent Appointment
Recently, President Joe Biden appointed Representative Mary Gonzalez to the Board of Directors of the North American Development Bank. NADBank, established under the North American Free Trade Agreement, funds water, environmental, energy, and infrastructure projects for border communities in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Education and Career of Representative Mary Gonzalez
Mary earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, her master’s from St. Edward’s University, and her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction-Cultural Studies in Education from UT-Austin. She has worked at the National Hispanic Institute, the University of Texas at Austin, and as the Assistant Dean for Student Multicultural Affairs at Southwestern University. Currently, she is the Executive Director for the Mexican American School Boards Association, an independent consultant, and an adjunct professor at St. Edward’s University.

Mary has also been recognized by Latino Leaders Magazine for her leadership in education. Latina Magazine named her one of ten “Next Generation Latinas,” and NBC Latino listed her as one of the 10 newly-elected politicians to watch in the nation.
